At least four people were killed when a submarine carrying Russian tourists sank from Egypt's Red Sea coast on Thursday, according to Egypt's Russian embassy and local news reports.
The ship was thought to carry around 45 people on a tour of waters off the coast near Hurghada, a popular resort that is nearly 300 miles southeast of Cairo.
The embassy reported his death in a statement posted on social media.
Local news outlets reported at least six people had died, but figures could not be verified immediately. Nine people were injured and taken to a nearby hospital, and rescuers pulled 29 people out of the water, news reports say.
Egypt has a history of issues involving tourist boats. Four people died last November when a boat carrying 44 passengers sank during a six-day dive trip from Marsa Alam, another Red Sea resort. The trip was supposed to end in Hurghada.
Commercial submarines are popular among tour operators along Holidawn and resort strips to explore the reefs.
