A local program is stepping in and offering help to pregnant teens in Forsyth County. It's called the “New Start Home Program.” Launched earlier this week, the service provides young mothers, especially teenagers, with resources ranging from medical and educational opportunities to safe and secure housing. Marsh Twigs, founder of Something, knows that need firsthand. “I was homeless and lost,” she said. “And there was little to no help.” Twiggs said she gave birth to her precious daughter at the age of 19. She said it was a difficult time for her, but it inspired her to make changes at Triad. Twiggs founded her New Start Homes program, which connects teen mothers with resources and support during life's biggest moments. “We're going to provide them with support like a doula to help them through the birth process,” she said. “We are also lactic acid doctors, therapists and psychologists,” she said, adding that they also provide support for the girls' futures. “We want them to understand financial literacy,” she says. “We want them to understand how to manage their own lives, life skills, and that that's important.” The program also partners with social services and local schools. Ultimately, Twiggs said, she wants the teens to not only survive, but thrive. “It's to let them know that their life isn't over yet,” she said. “They still have a chance and can continue to pursue their dreams.” Twiggs has already worked with three mothers, and she said more mothers will join the program by the end of this week. .

“I was homeless and lost,” she said. “And there was very little help.”
Twigs gave birth to her precious daughter at the age of 19. It was a difficult time for her, but she said it was the catalyst for her change at Triad. Twiggs founded the New Start Homes program, which connects teen mothers with resources and support during the biggest moments of their lives.
“We're going to provide them with support like a doula to help them through the birth process,” she said. She is “also a lactic acid doctor, therapist and psychologist.”
She added that they will also provide support for the girls' future.
“We want them to understand financial literacy,” she says. “We want them to understand how to manage their own lives, life skills, and that that's important.”
The program also partners with the Department of Social Services and local schools. Ultimately, Twiggs said she wants the teens to not only survive, but thrive.
“It’s to let them know that their life isn’t over yet,” she said. “They still have a chance and can continue to pursue their dreams.”
Twiggs said she has already worked with three mothers and more will be joining the program by the end of this week.
