BUXTON, N.C. (WTVD) — A 72-year-old South Carolina man died Saturday after his kayak capsized in the ocean near Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
The incident happened Saturday morning, according to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Service. Authorities say the man launched his kayak off the beach near Ramp 43 at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, east of Cape Point Campground near Buxton.
A passerby on the beach told authorities he saw the kayak capsize while trying to ride the waves about 50 yards from the beach, then swam to pull the man out of the kayak and back to the beach.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is investigating the incident.
