minutes. We're following breaking news from Greenville County this morning. Police said one person was killed when the vehicle hit a tree. We're told it happened just before 1 a.m. on Hunt Bridge Road near Fenwick Lane in Bellaire. Officials said the driver was heading north on Hunt Bridge Road when his pickup truck veered off to the left side of the road and struck a tree. The driver died from his injuries at the scene, and the passenger was also injured. No word yet on their condition, but the investigation is ongoing. Donald Trump is making history as the first former president to be tried in a criminal case, with jury selection beginning yesterday in New York and the hush money trial expected to last at least a week. Former President Trump has been charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. He is accused of paying hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. A man from the northern part of the state is behind bars on suspicion of starting a forest fire that forced people to flee their homes. It happened yesterday afternoon. And Easley firefighters said about eight acres along Dunklin Road burned, and about 20 homes were evacuated for several hours while officials worked to extinguish the fire, officials said. The Pickens County Sheriff's Office has charged 23-year-old Seth Bolding with third-degree arson in connection with the incident. Flames were shooting up from the trees and forest, as if there had been a really, really big blaze. You can see them here. They were orange. And it started to spread here. And more flames started coming here. And that's when it got really bad. Lawmakers said Bold is scheduled to appear before a judge for a hearing in the afternoon. Firefighters said no one was injured and no homes were damaged. Turning to Pickens County, we learned that a Clemson student was killed in a crash. We're told it happened Saturday night on Old Stone Church Road near Ridgecrest Drive in Clemson. Officials said the car ran off the road and overturned. The coroner said 20-year-old Caroline Dear, of Mount Pleasant, was killed in Abbeville County. SC DNR officials say a man drowned and died Monday afternoon when authorities were called to Lake Russell during the Blue Hole landing. The DNR said the fisherman fell from his boat not far from land. The body was recovered soon after. The coroner announced that Billy Painter, 89, of Greenville County, died in Greenville County. I heard that a school bus driver lost control of the bus carrying children and crashed into a mobile home. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Troopers said the driver veered off the road while traveling around a curve in Storm Valley where travelers take a break. Troopers say the driver then drove excessively, lost control and crashed into a mailbox, a fence and a mobile home. It is said that no one lives there. The Greenville County School District said two students were in the car, but no one was injured. We hear the driver is wanted for speeding too much for conditions. Clemson officials today will announce new technology aimed at combating underage drinking in Clemson's university community. Clemson City Council says a major student housing project is once again closer to reality. The council voted 4-3 Monday night to rezone the Abernathy Park hub-Clemson. Prior to the vote, several people voiced their opposition, citing traffic and parking concerns. The project calls for the construction of housing for more than 1,300 people and hundreds of parking spaces. Expansion of Abernathy Park is also being sought. Now, if the entire project is approved, the developers hope to have it built by around 2027. Spartanburg Community College is adding new pathways and new curriculum for students. We hear the university is launching a new school of education to meet the growing demand for qualified educators in the northern part of the state. The new academic unit will build on the success of the university's early care and education programs. SEC officials said they are considering developing future programs specifically tailored to meet teacher demand. No word yet on when students can begin applying to the program.
