A North Carolina woman and child are recovering after being attacked and burned during a robbery this week, police said. Officials said at a news conference that the woman, who was babysitting her children at the time, had gone outside and was robbed, assaulted and burned by a man who “caught her by surprise” as she re-entered the home. A 2-year-old child was also burned and suffered second-degree burns to his face and head. Information about how he sustained his burns has not been released. Police said other children were in the home at the time of the robbery. On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Monroe Police Department announced that on Tuesday, at approximately 2:40 p.m., officers responded to a residence on East Talleyrand Street in reference to an assault.

When they arrived, police learned it was a robbery that had actually occurred.
The woman, who was babysitting her child at the time, was outside and on her way back into the home, she was robbed, assaulted and burned by the man who “caught her by surprise,” officials said at a news conference.
A 2-year-old child was also burned, suffering second-degree burns to his face and head.
Information about how it was burned has not been released.
Police said there were other children in the home at the time of the robbery.
