By the time the situation was over, eight law enforcement personnel had been shot, four of whom were killed. Well, within the last 15 minutes there was news that his CMPD officer had died from his injuries. So that number is now four. It happened at his home on Galway Drive in the city's east here. NEW Tonight on WXII 12 Kara Peters spoke with neighbors in that community who still can't believe what they saw and heard. Those four officers are now in a Charlotte hospital. In fact, when we arrived at the hospital, I would like to say that I saw staff less than an hour later, or since they were here to support the families affected by tonight's events. . I would like to show you some videos of it. Again, you can see those cruisers, lots of cruisers, right at the hospital entrance. The police chief said three of the officers here tonight are from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and one is from another police department. All three officers who died were members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Also, on the late news tonight, we learned that a CMPD officer has been killed. I want to take you to the scene from earlier. early this afternoon. Everything started today around 130 o'clock. And the task force was attempting to serve a warrant on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As the officer approached the suspect, shots were fired at the officer, police said. The officers then retreated and killed the suspect. Detectives then called for reinforcements, which brought in CMPD officers to assist as officers approached the suspect. Police said two people inside the home fired shots at officers, leading to the standstill. That's when four CMPD officers were shot. Police are currently questioning the two men inside the home, and chiefs called the shooting a tragic day for the city of Charlotte and law enforcement. And this is a great example of what we try to tell people every day that when you put on this uniform, there's no guarantee that you're going to go home. Officer Samuel Poloche Poloche worked for the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections for 14 years and was assigned to the Special Operations Intelligence Unit. Mr. Poloche said that in 2013 he joined the NCDAC Special Operations Intelligence Unit. He has his wife and his two children. Joshua Iyer Detective Iyer has been with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for six years and was named Police Officer of the Month for April 2024. He is survived by his wife and three-year-old son.
