Amy Kiley gives the latest update. How did it happen? New information has shed light on how the gunman escaped security and shot former President Donald Trump on Saturday. Law enforcement officials say the gunman asked to take the day off work. He brought a rangefinder to the rally. It's a device that looks like a small pair of binoculars, but it's used by shooters to gauge distances when preparing to fire from long distances. It's not a weapon. So the security let him through. But they flagged him down. What for? Is he holding this in his hand? The would-be assassin then exited the security area, according to investigators. It's not known where he went, but it's believed he likely got a rifle from a car and climbed onto an air conditioning unit and onto a roof outside the perimeter. This is the story of a senior federal law enforcement official. He picks up the rangefinder and looks through it at the countersniper position. And one of the countersniper positions looks at him through the scope. At this point, there is no gun in the photo. From what I understand. But they say he sees us, him. She blames her decision on gerrymandering. Another Democrat from Guilford County is resigning from her seat in the North Carolina General Assembly. Ashton Clemons represents House District 57.
