Second lady Ushavance will join White House national security adviser, energy secretary and other U.S. officials said as President Trump continues to push to take over the island.
In a statement, the Trump administration said Vance will visit Greenland on Thursday with one of her children, visit his historic location and attend the National Dog Sleigh Race.
“Mr. Vance and the delegation are thrilled to witness this monumental race and celebrate Greenland's culture and unity,” the statement said.
Separately, national security adviser Michael Waltz is expected to tour the US military base, two U.S. officials said. Energy secretary Chris Wright is expected to join him, according to others with knowledge of the visit, as the Trump administration focuses on Arctic security and the Western hemisphere.
Other senior administration officials may also visit. Officials spoke anonymously as they were not authorized to discuss the trip.
A spokesman for Waltz did not respond to requests for comment.
A White House spokesman did not answer questions about whether officials were invited.
Trump continued his speech on seizing Greenland, part of the expansionist thinking of his second term inauguration targeting Canada and Panama.
Greenland is part of Denmark, but has an autonomous government. Both officials have been jarred by Trump's aggressive approach to gain some control in Greenland, and he has offered to buy during his first term, and since then, “in some way, we've been trying to get it.”
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has made it clear that neither Denmark nor Greenland wants to travel.
“We will not see any visits from the US alone from official statements made,” Fredericksen said. “In the Kingdom, we want to work with Americans, but it must be cooperation based on the fundamental values of sovereignty and mutual respect between the nation and the people.
This will be Vance's second solo trip internationally as second lady. The other visited Italy this month to lead the US delegation to the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
