Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was hospitalized Monday after being attacked in a California prison, where he was sentenced to 10 years in prison to film hip-hop star Megan The Seatlion, authorities said.
Mr. Raines, 32, is his real name, Daystar Peterson, and was attacked by another inmate Monday morning at the Tehachapi prison near Bakersfield, the California Department of Amendments and Rehabilitation said in a statement.
Lanes was taken to a medical facility outside the prison, the department said. Although they did not provide details about Lanez's condition, a statement posted on his Instagram account late Monday said he had been stabbed 14 times.
“Both his lungs collapsed and he was placed in a breathing device,” the statement said. “He's breathing on his own now,” a representative for Lanez said Monday night that there were no updates beyond the statement.
In August 2023, a Los Angeles judge sentenced Lanez to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting Megan The Stallion with both feet following a debate three years ago. He was convicted of three felony counts, including assault with a semi-automatic handgun.
At the time of the shooting, Megan Theorion was following the sharp trajectory of stardom thanks to a blockbuster collaboration between Beyoncé and Cardi B.
Last year, Megan The Se Stallion sought a restraining order against Lanez. In the court application, her lawyer accused her of running a “harassment campaign” from prison, including hiring bloggers to spread a statement of honor and loss about her.
The judge granted the restraining order to Lanes until 2030, the Associated Press reported.
