Three U.S. marshals were killed and five other officers were wounded in a hail of bullets Monday as they executed a warrant in Charlotte, North Carolina, officials said.
The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m., when the U.S. Marshals Task Force was serving a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and the suspect fired “a powerful round” at them. Police officials announced this afternoon. Press conference.
Three marshals were killed and one marshal and four Charlotte Mecklenburg police officers were injured.
One police officer is in critical condition.
CMPD said the suspect was found dead after police entered the home he had barricaded himself in, and two others were taken into custody and are being questioned.
Police said the department's SWAT team was dispatched to the scene while many roads in the area were closed to allow police vehicle access.
Most were opened after the conflict ended.
