A three-alarm fire broke out at a Miami apartment building on Monday morning, leading to rescue efforts and the evacuation of residents, some of whom fled to safety from balconies, authorities said.
Mayor Francis X. Suarez said in an interview at the scene that the fire at the Temple Court apartment complex west of Interstate 95 near downtown Miami was reported about 8:15 a.m. When authorities arrived on the scene they found one person with a gunshot wound, who was taken to a hospital, the mayor said.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured in the fire or what the circumstances of the shooting were.
Suarez said it was the city's first three-alarm blaze in 25 years, adding that more than 40 fire units were called and firefighters evacuated buildings and “fighted the fire from the outside in.”
This is a developing story.
