Pitt County Girls Softball Little League (Winterville, NC) will compete in Greenville for the third consecutive year, having qualified this year as the North Carolina (host) Regional for the 2024 Little League Softball.® World Series presented by DICK'S Sporting Goods.
The Pitt County girls softball LL team qualified directly as the host team for the first time in 2022 and returned to Greenville in 2023 as the Southeast Regional Champions, but will again be the host team after winning the North Carolina state title with a 15-0 win over Johnston County Little League in the finals.
Pitt County Girls Softball Little League finished the 2023 World Series with a 4-2 record and a shot at winning the Purple Bracket Championship, but lost to Massapequa (NY) Little League in the World Series Championship, finishing as runner-up. As the 2022 host region, the league finished with a 2-2 record.
The direct entry into the tournament is part of the LLSWS's recent expansion to 12 teams, the third year of international team participation and sending a North Carolina state champion as the host team for the event. Since the tournament began in 1974, North Carolina teams have represented the Southeast Region 11 times, including two wins by Rowan Little League.
The winner of the final game (Game 9) of the North Carolina Tournament between Johnston County Little League and Rowan Little League will also have the opportunity to compete for a spot in Greenville to represent North Carolina through the Southeast Regional Tournament.
With the first round matchups set, Pitt County Girls Softball Little League will once again compete in the Purple Bracket and will play its first game against the Asia-Pacific region on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 7pm ET on ESPN+.
In addition to the fun and excitement of the 2024 Little League Softball World Series, this year's event attendees will also have the unique experience of spending time with some of the game's top athletes as Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball returns to Greenville for the 2024 AU Pro Games at LLSWS, hosting a doubleheader at East Carolina University on Wednesday, August 7th.
