North Carolina (WTVD) — More than 800 new jobs will be created in rural areas across North Carolina.
The state's Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) is a 17-member board that awards Rural, Community Development Block Grant and Public Works Grants.
Gov. Roy Cooper announced Thursday that RIA has approved 20 grant applications to local governments totaling more than $8 million that will create 802 jobs, 408 of which have already been announced.
The funds will help with building reuse, downtown development, industrial projects, etc. Counties receiving the funds include Nash, Wayne, Johnston and Franklin counties.
“Continued investments in building capacity and public infrastructure are essential to attracting more economic opportunity to rural North Carolina,” said Governor Cooper. “These grants will help improve quality of life and increase economic prosperity for all North Carolinians.”
The public investment in these projects will garner more than $474 million in combined public and private investment.
