Iran and Sweden exchanged prisoners on Saturday in a major development, according to the Swedish Prime Minister.
Iran has released European Union diplomats Johan Floderus, a Swedish national, and dual national Saeed Azizi, who were arrested in Tehran in April 2022, the Swedish Prime Minister announced.
“I am pleased to announce that Johan Floders and Said Azizi are currently on a flight to Sweden and will soon be reunited with their families,” Prime Minister Ulf Christersson said on social media.
In exchange, Sweden released Hamid Nouri, a senior Iranian official who was serving a life sentence in a Swedish court for committing war crimes in Iran in 1988.
A statement released by Oman's state-run News Agency said the exchange was arranged with Oman's cooperation.
