WATCH: Rain chances disappear for most of North Carolina this weekend, warmer weather arrives Sunday
The end of the rainA lovely weekend in North Carolina
Saturday. But it's still raining now. I said we shouldn't get rain until the afternoon evening, but it's actually raining in various parts of the Piedmont Triangle. Not everyone is seeing the rain tonight, but those who do are seeing a lot of it. We're seeing scattered rain and thunderstorms in nature. The rain fell in Guilford County from 2 to 3 pm and continues to move south. We're seeing some thankless downpours along 285 Lexington and 29. It's going to be a nuisance for commuters tonight, but we're seeing a trend to move south and southwest tonight. So the rain will start to move south. We're also already seeing some lightning strikes from these storms weakening, which is a good sign. It may not intensify, but we still have a few hours for the rain to weaken as the heat of the day subsides. That will help. There is a flood watch in place just north of the Ennis area. We're going to cross Carroll County and head into Fancy Gap and Kana. It's definitely rough weather in some spots. But a lot of people will avoid getting wet. We have a stationary front. Temperatures outside are in the 70s right now, with a high of 84 in Greensboro today and 88 in Burlington. This front has been stationary for most of this week. It will continue its trend of pushing south overnight and bringing a few scattered showers into the early morning tomorrow. Then Saturday through the early morning, we should see a shower or two and a thunderstorm. It will be dry. This is good news. After the fog clears, things should start to improve as a ridge of high pressure moves in. Now, as a ridge of high pressure moves in, the air quality could worsen. Things will get worse through Sunday, as pollution and wildfire smoke start to move south, and Saturday afternoon will see milder temperatures, but in the low to mid 80s, which is mild for July compared to the 90s. Better than that. Temperatures overnight through Sunday morning will be in the 60s and pretty dry with a few ridges of fog here and there. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s. It's going to be a hot day. It's still humid outside, so I'm hoping for July-like weather in the afternoon. But overall it's a good weekend. Mostly dry. You'll notice a couple of showers and storms trying to sneak in from the west. That's around the west ridge of the high mountains. That could bring some storms. Temperatures will be 269 in the Piedmont Tri-mountain. Highs of 85. Tomorrow will be a high of 83 during the day, making it a comfortable day for those in the foothills. Starting with fog. Clouds are starting to clear even in the mountains. We have a southeasterly wind blowing, but a storm or two is possible in the afternoon. Most areas don't look like they'll get any rain.Temperatures are up near 76 degrees and as you know, it's been a bit of rain here and there today, but the heaviest is from Greensboro south into Davidson County, about a half to two inches of rain. Excessive rainfall is forecast for Monday. We have another danger zone from the Piedmont Triangle into the foothills. We're at slight risk. We're at level two. We've already talked about the air quality concerns. Wildfire smoke is what happens as the cold front moves south and starts to push in. And unfortunately particulate matter increases. So we think it could affect sensitive people. Young children with asthma and active seniors, please be careful with this over the next few days. If you're affected, please be careful to feel better. We're watching for a small system that's pushing towards us as it moves towards the Bahamas, but that's a little later. Over the next seven days, we'll be watching the tropics again. The seven-day forecast is expecting good weather through the weekend. Thankfully, after two consecutive hot and muggy days, it will get a little muggy heading into Sunday with rising temperatures and a risk of heavy rain on Monday.
