Stormy Tuesday Afternoon Threat of flash floods and isolated severe storms iNorth Carolina
At least. Right. You know, at least in the afternoon. But think about your pets. It's hot out on the sidewalk, isn't it? Not just from the sun, but from the heat itself. That's what's hurting us. So hopefully, everybody is trying to stay cool in some way. Find some shade. If you park in a shady parking lot, that makes a big difference, right? Or if you have a sunshade on your car. I love being in the sun, but I don't want to be out there too long. It's muggy out there, isn't it? We're watching the scattered rain from the thunderstorms continue to get stronger and start to develop in the upper atmosphere. There's a risk of more intense rain today. So there's a very good chance of flash flooding and localized flooding near some of the creeks and bays. We're seeing rain along 785 to 29 and along I-42. So if you're going out today, you might get some rough weather. Right now, it's starting to rain heavily in High Point, Greensboro. What you're seeing is an elevation scan of 920 feet. We don't have any major weather warnings yet, but one or two of these storms could potentially produce destructive wind gusts. So for Martinsville, the risk is slight. The Triad through Chapel Hill and Asheboro. There is a slight risk in terms of forecasting heavy rainfall or excessive rainfall that could lead to flash flooding. So that risk is expected today along the 421, up into the mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway. And we've already had a couple of inches of snow in a lot of places. Now we'll see if we can get a little bit more snowfall in places that didn't get enough snowfall that people need. And that's going to happen over the next few days. So the chances of rain will remain high through Friday. We're trending dry for the weekend. But oh my goodness, let's talk about a drought-busting rain situation. I'm happy to get some rain, but I don't want it to come all at once. That's the worrying situation today. These areas are going to start getting at least a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch of snow. Strong slow moving thunderstorms are expected to bring 2 to 3 inches of snow. It's these thunderstorms that we're really concerned about. Temperatures right now are 85 in Greensboro and 86 in Winston-Salem. So even though it's in the upper 80s, it feels like it's in the low 90s. Look at the slow wind speeds too. There's not much on the ground to keep us cool. In fact, these clouds will also be responsible for slow moving thunderstorms that will bring even more heavy rain. 85 in Greensboro and 86 in the Burlington area. The hourly forecast right now is calling for temperatures in the upper 80s to continue. Luckily, the clouds are increasing and as the rain starts to fall, it will slow down and move. Then it will slow down a bit before more rain and storms arrive in the evening. We have scattered showers happening right now over the Winston-Salem-Greensboro area. And it's really starting to come down. Tonight we will see some more rain in the foothills and the Piedmont. And then as this front starts to move a little bit further east it's basically stationary. It's not moving very much. It's just staying right over us. So that's going to be the center of the storm again tonight and overnight. So we'll see another low pressure system develop and continue to bring showers until early tomorrow morning. We may see some dry rain tomorrow, but we'll also see some fog again in places. The fog may thicken in places that got the heaviest rain, and we'll see more rain again in the afternoon and evening. It's very similar to the pattern we saw on Tuesday and Wednesday. For the next four days, we'll see a series of impact days like this and the chances of rain will remain high. As I said, there will be one or two thunderstorms today that will be intense and there will be a slight risk of wind damage. We can expect a 4/10 inch to at least a half inch of snow. It looks like we'll have scattered showers.More rain will come with thunderstorms. We're talking about flash flood risk here. Not everyone will see 2-3 inches of snow, but that's likely with a slow-moving storm, with 1.2 inches expected in Stuart over the weekend. The snow will slow down Saturday through Sunday, which is good news. Temperatures today are in the upper 80s. The trend continues to have an impact through the afternoon. We've already seen rain, with showers in the upper atmosphere. Hopefully this will cool us down. If you're listening to the rain in the pool, thunder will be key. It may be a shower at first, but thunderstorms are coming. Temperatures in the mountains are 73°F, with highs in the upper 70s. But more showers will come and start to subside later tonight. Here's the 7-day forecast.Saturday and Sunday will be dry, with temperatures currently in the low to mid 80s returning to the upper 80s for this time of year. Monday and Sunday
