CHARLOTTE — Special Olympics athletes from across North Carolina are flocking to Charlotte for summer camp.
Camp SOAR stands for Special Olympics Athletic Retreat.
This year, more than 300 campers and volunteers will participate in a variety of activities, including swimming, tennis and pickleball.

Channel spoke with one of the participants who said he looks forward to the camp every year.
“It makes me so happy to meet new volunteers and it's really fun meeting new people,” Camp SOAR participant Jocelyn Gaines said.
Campers will be paired with a one-on-one volunteer counselor who will help them get the most out of their Camp SOAR experience.
