A gunman was arrested after killing one person and wounding another outside the Honduran consulate near Atlanta on Monday afternoon, officials said.
Emily Heenan, a spokeswoman for the city of Doraville, Georgia, about 26 miles northeast of Atlanta, said the suspect was in custody at the scene and police believe there are no other threats to the public.
Around 2:30 p.m., the Doraville Police Department responded to reports of shots fired just outside the Honduran consulate at 6755 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., one of 14 Honduran consulates in the country. I received it. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other injured person was taken to hospital in stable condition, Heenan said.
Authorities did not immediately release the names of the victims or suspects or say whether they knew a motive for the attack. Heenan said investigators believe the gunman acted alone.
Police were interviewing witnesses to the shooting Monday night.
The Mexican Consulate General in Atlanta is working with authorities to identify possible Mexican victims, according to a post from the Mexican Consulate General.
