During breeding season, the center sees many underweight, malnourished elephant seal puppies. Sometimes they also see elephant seals with traumatic injuries such as parasites and dog bites or blunt instrument trauma from boat propellers.
Over the past few years, Marine Mammal Centers have been testing patients with avian-like symptoms, including respiratory and neurological problems, for the virus.
