While the majority of fans are bummed about the conference realignment, there is still a lot of uncertainty about the future, especially with Clemson and Florida State wanting to leave the ACC. This was of course the topic of the first day of SEC Media Days yesterday, and when asked about it, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey had this to say about the future of the SEC:
“Sixteen is our today and sixteen is our tomorrow,” Sankey said.
“We are solely focused on the 16 points,” the commissioner reiterated.
There's been a lot of speculation about whether the SEC will try to add Florida State and Clemson in the future, but college football analyst Paul Finebaum said there's one other school at the top of the SEC's wish list.
“I mean, I think that's one of the toughest areas,” Finebaum said. “Listen, Greg (Sankey) is very smart. He knows it's out there. I think he has a pretty standard phrasing that goes back to things he heard three years ago. So, I don't think he's going to dig too deep or reveal too much, even if asked.”
“Top of the list is North Carolina,” Finebaum said, “and after that it's kind of unknown. There are a lot of different theories. Is North Carolina going to take somebody? Or are they just going to sit back and wait?”
This morning, Brett McMurphy of the Action Network reported that if Florida State were to drop out and the ACC remained, the Big Ten and SEC would likely not add Florida State. McMurphy also said that if the ACC were to collapse, the SEC and Big Ten would push for North Carolina and Virginia.

It'll be interesting to see where Georgia Tech stands in all of this, especially if the ACC falls apart, but for now it's best to stay calm and watch it all work out.
