A 23-year-old woman was killed Wednesday after a thug threw a rock at her windshield at a home in North Carolina.
Brittany Elizabeth Ferguson was on her way to visit her sister when a rock flew into her car, hitting her in the head and causing fatal injuries, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Her 2006 Ford Taurus left the road, crashed through a yard and onto a neighbor's porch.
Mr. Ferguson was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It's bad. It was really bad,” homeowner Abigail Ramlett told WRAL.
“The house can be replaced or repaired… just get closure. That's what I want for the family.”
The person who threw the rock is still under investigation, but investigators are searching for a white Chevrolet S-10 single-cab truck.
Witnesses reported seeing a truck driving back and forth in the area with a man in the back of the truck after the incident.
State troopers believe the rock may have been thrown by a car passing in the opposite direction of Ferguson, or by someone standing on the side of the road, ABC News reported.
“I hope the person who did this act comes forward. And please understand what's going on here, because it's just a terrible tragedy,” Lamlett said.
The brutal attack occurred just days after a Colorado teenager admitted to committing the same crime that killed a 20-year-old in 2023.
Zachary Kwak, 19, admitted that he and two of his friends killed Alexa Bartel during a several-day spree of throwing rocks and other objects at cars.
According to authorities, Bartel was returning from work around 10:45 p.m. when a large landscaping rock crashed through his windshield and hit him.
