CHEROKEE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – Adult members of the Eastern Cherokee Nation of Indians and other federally recognized tribes can now purchase recreational marijuana.
Great Smoky Cannabis, a dispensary that opened in Cherokee in April, began selling legal marijuana for adults for the first time on the Fourth of July.
To purchase recreational marijuana, tribal members must be 21 or older and present a valid tribal membership card.
Great Smoky Cannabis Co. had been selling medical marijuana prior to Thursday, and the dispensary will continue to accept medical patient cards from customers regardless of tribal status.
