North Carolina State Treasurer Dale Falwell speaks about his future at 'Ask Me Anything' conference
House. Okay. Now, at 4 a.m. today, North Carolina Treasurer and Winston-Salem resident Dale Falwell spoke about his future and whether he will support his party's gubernatorial candidate. Bill O'Neill tells our story. After more than two decades in politics, Dale Falwell lost his party's nomination for governor last month, leaving him with an uncertain future. We wanted to know: Will that future include politics? During a virtual conference with reporters from around the state, we asked the treasurer about his own future. I would like to ask if he could tell me about his future plans. Does it contain any political content? I have no intention of running for political office. Oh, move forward. Oh, obviously that could change. Oh, but you know I love to fix and I love to save. There are so many things around this state and this country that need to be fixed and preserved. Falwell's future became uncertain after losing his party's gubernatorial nomination to Mark Robinson last month. The Winston-Salem Republican Party was highly critical of Robinson during the campaign. A Republican Party based on hate cannot exist. It must be a party based on hope. Do you have any plans to support the Republican gubernatorial candidate in any way? I'll say what I said before. I'm not going to waste my vote on anyone for the rest of my life. It's up to Republican candidates to prove that to voters. Why am I included? Why? He is the perfect person for this job. Is there a way to actively support your party's gubernatorial candidate, whether it's financially or by blocking the path? Yeah. I never thought I would be asked to do that. Mark Robinson will face Josh Stein in the November gubernatorial election. Mr. Falwell said he has no plans to run for public office, but he left the door open, saying he could change in Greensboro.I'm B.I.
