Athletes from across the country gathered at TrackTown USA as the 2024 Olympic Track and Field Trials kicked off on Friday.
With the 10 days of competition beginning Friday morning, we caught up with one athlete from Youngsville, North Carolina, who recently arrived in Eugene.
“It's a great place to be,” said 100-meter sprinter Melisia Musson. “I'm still getting used to the weather and the time difference, but I'm really excited for the experience. I feel like God put me here for a reason, so I'm excited to show off the talent he's given me.”
Muzzone attended East Carolina University where he set numerous program records.
According to his coach, the excitement for Muzzon began the moment he received the invitation.
“You could say the excitement just ran through me the moment she found out she made it,” Eastern Carolina University sprint coach Udon Cheek said. “We've worked hard and she's worked hard to get in the fire of this event, so she deserves to be in the fire of this event. But for me, from the moment I found out she made it, I just couldn't wait to see what she would do.”
Muzzon is scheduled to compete in the third heat of the women's 100-meter qualifying round on Friday, June 20.
