Governor Roy Cooper has declared April 11, 2024, “Child Advocacy Center Day.”
This evaluation highlights the important role these centers play in supporting vulnerable children.
Many children face physical or sexual abuse and neglect.
These incidents often go unreported and leave behind lasting trauma. But child advocacy centers offer a ray of hope.
Last year alone, these centers across the state provided assistance to more than 12,000 children.
A recent example is Raleigh's Safe Child Center, which opened last October.
Safe Child Director Christine DeLogna says there is hope.
“These children's stories need to be heard and we provide a safe space for them to come and talk about their experiences in order to better understand what has happened in their lives that has traumatized them. There is a need,” DeLogna said.
DeRonja said the new Safe-Child center will be able to see multiple children at the same time, eliminating long waiting lists for services.
The center provides a haven for children with professional support.
