Burlington Fire Department responds to Super 8 Motel fire.
We will contact you now. At 6 o'clock, we are taking A. I would like to actually see what it looks like outside. Are you over Boone at this time? It's Monday, May 13th here, and although it's a little chilly, it's very nice outside. Take meteorologist Brian Slocum. now. Brian, the temperatures on the map seem to be all over the place. Yes, Boone is one of the coldest regions. I finally turned 39 years old. Check there and make sure the temperature doesn't drop below freezing. And yes, there you are, 39. The rest are in their 40s and 50s. It is unusually cool for this time of year. It's like a telltale sign of how dry the air is. Start moistening. Over the next few days, morning low temperatures will begin to rise and afternoon high temperatures will be near normal. Counties along the North Carolina-Virginia border have people in their early to mid-40s. Currently it's 53 in King, 54 in Winston-Salem, and closer to 50 from High Point to Lexington. High clouds were rolling in this morning. We'll see some nice sunshine early, but clouds will quickly begin to cover the region from the west. High pressure creates clouds and we see severe thunderstorms forming. Severe weather is likely in parts of Florida and southern Alabama in the short term, while severe storms remain in Louisiana and Mississippi overnight. Everything is moving along a stationary front, but it will also keep you out of the rain. It's a dry day, but clouds will increase later. Temperatures this afternoon are in the mid to low 70s in many areas of the foothills, and much closer to temperatures expected to return to the 60s in much of the mountains. From 5:00 to 10:00 the wind will blow from the south and it will start to get humid. But we're dry, so while the humidity is creeping up a little bit, I think it's still in the comfortable range for today. However, dew points will return to the 60s within a few days. The weather is nice this afternoon with a high around 77 degrees. It stayed dry until 9 o'clock. Western counties may see some showers, but the chance of rain will start to increase tonight, so there's a good chance of rain later tonight. Tuesday through Wednesday, and later this week as the weekend approaches. We'll explain this in detail to help you plan for the week ahead in case there's a chance of rain. So you can go out and do things without getting wet. I will introduce that later. Check out this morning's traffic conditions in the Piedmont Triad. Things are currently progressing smoothly, with no reports of slowdowns or collisions at this time, particularly on major roads and highways in the region. Now, this is a live view from outside US 52 SOUTH, Research Parkway West in Winston-Salem. As you can see, traffic is moving smoothly. There are no reports of slowdowns or congestion on that route. Everyone please travel safely. We now go to Guilford County where a murder investigation is taking place. This morning, the Sheriff's Office announced that the incident started with a call yesterday evening to a home on the corner of Everfield and Suffield Road in Stokesdale. Sheriff Danny Rogers said this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community. He did not release any information about the victim or suspect. This morning, the authorities of Eden are asking for your help. Search for the missing woman. Police said Rosa Maria Lugo was reported missing on Saturday. Officers say she recently moved to the area and to the Garden of Eden. She left on foot, leaving her cell phone and other personal items behind. She was last seen in the Draper neighborhood in the area of Fieldcrest Road and New Street. At the time, she was wearing a gray bodysuit and sneakers. She described Lugo as 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. Investigators say she has cognitive impairment and may be confused. If you know her whereabouts in Lugo, please call Eden Police or Rockingham County Crime Stoppers. A man is in custody after three children in his home opened fire near a Yadkin County elementary school during a sporting event Friday night. Solomon Osorio is currently charged with failing to properly store a firearm. Authorities believe three children left alone in the home opened fire, striking a concession stand near the playground at West Yadkin Elementary School. It has not yet been announced whether there were any injuries. Winston-Salem police are searching for a driver who took off after a crash at Virgrave Street and Hayde Street on Friday. Investigators report two vehicles were involved in the incident. At least one person was injured. Details regarding the extent of his injuries have not been disclosed, but it appears that there is considerable damage. There. The Biden administration continues to distance itself from Israel as Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued his strongest criticism yet of Israel's war against Hamas. Amy Lu is in our Washington bureau this morning to talk about the position on U.S.-Israel relations. Jackie Israel is even further away in the United States. Blinken has warned Israel to end its military offensive as it ramps up operations in Gaza. Airstrikes target Hamas militants in northern Gaza as Israeli forces push deeper into southern Gaza, forcing more people to flee. There must be a reliable plan for civilians. Have you ever seen a reliable plan? We haven't. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated his opposition to Israel's military operation, warning that without a better plan, more innocent lives are at risk and the issue will not go away. Gaza warns that it is a serious issue and will prevent Hamas from interfering with the government again. The protests in Israel are calling for a ceasefire and a hostage deal, but I think the situation will continue unless some clear position is taken and some action is taken. Lincoln doubled down, drawing a narrow line between US support for Israel and providing weapons that could violate human rights laws. In that case, there are certain regimes that do not provide Israel with aid to support that effort. Because that's something we don't want to be a part of. Blinken based the administration's position on Friday's State Department report that Israel may have used the United States to violate international humanitarian law.
