No new leads. 604 Well, today's outlook: Molly Corbett and Thomas Martins are set to be released from prison just a few months after being convicted for the second time in the death of Molly's husband, Jason Corbett. Both pleaded guilty to manslaughter last fall for killing Molly's husband in 2015. They fought back in 2017, claiming their husband's death was self-defense, as Jason had been choking Molly. Both were convicted of second-degree murder. Then in 2020, an appeals court overturned those convictions, citing errors that did not give the Martins and Corbetts a fair trial. The state Supreme Court upheld that decision a year later. Last November, both men agreed to plea deals on lesser charges for Molly Corbett, but Thomas Martins pleaded no contest to a manslaughter charge and was found guilty of manslaughter. The judge sentenced them to the maximum of 74 months. Both are currently scheduled to be released this month after deducting time already served. Both will be released on June 6 instead of June 27. The department said Tuesday that it had received amended sentences and detention documents from the Davidson County Court. The cases were just dismissed in November for a second trial. The two subsequently accepted plea deals. Their lawyers argued that they killed Jason Corbett in self-defense for years of domestic violence against Molly Corbett. The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections announced in February that it was moving up the release dates for Molly Corbett and Thomas Martens. They will both be released on June 6 instead of June 27. The department said it received the amended sentences and detention documents from the Davidson County Court on Tuesday.
After their first trial was overturned, a second trial was held in November after both men accepted plea deals.
Their lawyers argued that the couple killed Jason Corbett in retaliation for years of domestic violence against Molly Corbett.
