A college student from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was shot and killed in North Carolina just days before graduation.
On Thursday, police found North Carolina Central University student Miles Gresham shot to death in his car at an apartment complex near his home in Durham, several miles from campus.
Police said the 22-year-old man was shot while driving around 3:30 p.m. His car crashed into two other cars in the parking lot of an apartment complex. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are calling this an isolated incident. they have not been arrested.
Gresham's mother described him as very intelligent, humble, and often reclusive.
NCCU's president issued a statement saying Mr. Gresham, the business administration mayor, was a dedicated student with entrepreneurial aspirations.
“He diligently selected courses each semester that set him on the path to future success,” the statement said. “Miles was active in campus life and served as treasurer for the Metro Eagles Club. His friendly personality and enthusiasm for the game of Wordle were always appreciated by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. It will bring a smile.”
Gresham was scheduled to begin a real estate internship in Seattle this summer.
His mother said the family will receive his diploma at Saturday's graduation ceremony.
