A man shot and killed two people during depositions in a child custody case at a Las Vegas law office Monday morning, then killed himself, police said.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jason Johansson told The News that police responded to a report of an active shooter at around 10 a.m. inside the Prince Law Group on the fifth floor of an office building in the city's Summerlin community. Lt. Johansson said that just a few minutes into the deposition, the gunman “got up and started firing at the victims across the table.” Police believe the suspect then shot himself.
The lieutenant did not name the gunman or the victim or say what their relationship was.
He also noted that the gunman “shooed away” another person in the room, adding: “It appears our two victims were very specific targets.” “I believe we have a good understanding at this point of time as to what the motive is,” he said, without providing further details.
At an earlier news conference, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill did not say whether the victims worked for the law firm. Prince Law Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday afternoon.
Footage from the local ABC station showed employees inside the six-story office building remaining across the street as police searched the building.
The sheriff said hundreds of people were evacuated.
