The U.S. Department of Justice said Thursday it would dismiss Elon Musk's lawsuit against SpaceX, which was accused of discriminating against people based on its citizenship status.
In an opposition motion filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the Department of Justice said it intended to file a notice of dismissal on bias.
The movement did not state why the case was being removed.
The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against SpaceX on August 23, 2023, accusing it of violating federal law in its employment practices.
SpaceX did not take into account considerable consideration of job applications from refugees and people who were allowed to be exiled in the United States, the department said. SpaceX also discouraged refugees and Asylees from applying for work, refused to hire them if they were eligible, and repeatedly refused because of their citizenship position, the department said.
Musk said at the time that SpaceX was told that because of the export control laws it would not allow people to hire people who are not citizens or permanent residents of the US. “This is another case of DOJ weaponization for political purposes,” he posted to X.
The Justice Department rejected its position and said the Export Control Act did not raise any such restrictions.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
