MSNBC said Monday that former White House spokesman Jen Psaki, who became one of the network's most prominent hosts, will pin the show every night at Primetime.
Psaki, 46, will be holding the show from Tuesday to Friday from 9pm, and a long-standing politics that has been pinning that time since 2022, according to a note to staff members of MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler. He replaces journalist Alex Wagner. Wagner will remain at MSNBC as an on-air correspondent.
MSNBC's biggest star, Rachel Madow, has a lockdown on 9pm on early weekdays in President Trump's administration, but will return to host one night a week at the end of April.
MSNBC plans to overhaul its schedule for several weeks. The network is cancelling the 7pm program, which was pinned by Joy Reed, who has been pinning that time slot since 2020. On Monday, Reed said he would replace the hosts trio at 7pm: Simon Sanderstownsend, a political commentator and former Democratic strategist. Michael Steele, former chairman of the Republican National Committee. Alicia Menendez, an anchor on the network.
Reed is off the network, Kutler said in her notes. The trio will replace current co-hosts, “The Weekend,” which airs Saturday and Sunday mornings.
In a statement, Reed said he and her team are proud of the work she and her team have accomplished during their time at MSNBC. .
“We supported and defended real history, the 1619 project, diversity, equity, inclusion, access to books for children and students,” Reed said in a statement. “And we did it all with a smile and a sense of humor.”
Two people with knowledge of the decision said the network's leaders made the changes, primarily because they thought Ms. Reid's show's viewer figures were overwhelming. So far, Reid's program has fallen behind Fox News' rival show The Ingraham Angle. However, during that period, it surpassed its rival CNN program, “Erin Burnett Outfront,” in overall viewership. Nielsen data shows that both Fox and CNN shows outperform Reid's program in key advertising demographics.
Ms Pasaki recently joined MSNBC in 2023 after spending her career in Democratic politics as President Biden's White House press secretary. She currently hosts the show “Inside with Jen Psaki” on Sunday at 8pm and Sunday at 8pm on Monday and 8pm on Monday, according to anyone with knowledge of internal discussions about the program. But nothing has been decided yet. .
MSNBC has announced changes elsewhere in the lineup. The co-host of “The Weekend” will be replaced by three new anchor trios, including MSNBC and columnist host Jonathan Capehart. The network is also planning to introduce an evening version of that program, hosted by different anchor groups, including MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin. Ali Velshi, who anchors the eponymous program over the weekend, will expand the show to three hours.
