The North Carolina Public Schools Forum has released the 2024 North Carolina Education Policy Primer, which serves as a nonpartisan, fact-based guide to public education in North Carolina. This primer provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of public education, the policies that guide it, and how education policy is created. The Forum has produced this guide to inform current policy makers, candidates for public office, and the general public.
Education policy encompasses a wide range of interrelated issues, including school finance and facilities, accountability and evaluation, technology, and teachers. To make informed, evidence-based decisions, policymakers and voters face the challenge of understanding complex education issues.
“This primer covers education in North Carolina, from how policies are created, to the responsibilities of various levels of government and officials, to how policies currently impact students and educators. “It's a great tool for people who want to learn more about policy,” he said. Lauren Fox, Senior Director of Policy Research. “Our team has put a lot of effort into making sure this resource is fact-based and easy to understand. This helps voters looking to make informed decisions. It is also beneficial for candidates who do not have much teaching experience.”
The Forum will hold a virtual conference on Primers on June 5, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. All North Carolinians are encouraged to participate. Registration for that event will open soon.
The forum will also hold its biennial candidate education session in June for an introduction to public office, including those running for the North Carolina General Assembly, county commissions, and local school boards.
