Missiles launched from Yemen on Sunday struck central Israel near the main terminal at the international airport near Tel Aviv. The strike led to a temporary flight halt, but there were no reports of deaths.
Israeli forces said several efforts have been made to intercept the missiles and the impacts have been identified in the Ben Gurion airport area. The military added that the episode is under review.
Israeli emergency emergency services said it is treating two people injured in the explosion and a third party injured while running towards the shelter.
Videos and images posted on social media showed a large plume of thick smoke rising from an open area near Terminal 3, the main international flight terminal.
The road near the airport appeared to be covered in dirt and rap shotguns.
In a statement just before the missile attack, Israeli airport officials said 422 international flights are scheduled to arrive or depart on Sunday. After the strike, airport officials said flights had been suspended according to protocols, but the airport was expected to start working again soon.
Iran-backed Hooty militia, where Israel is launching missiles in Israel in solidarity with Hamas in Gaza, resumed its launch after Israel ended the war ceasefire in mid-March. Israeli forces were able to intercept most missiles, but missile fragments often fall across Israel.
