Several parts of South Florida were hit by “life-threatening” flooding on Wednesday as heavy rains closed major roads, stranded vehicles and submerged roads, homes and parking lots.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for several Florida counties, including Broward, Collier, Lee, Miami-Dade and Sarasota. Major urban areas from Fort Lauderdale to downtown Miami experienced flash flooding, forcing residents to wade through knee-deep water and authorities warned people to avoid roads.
The severe weather, which began Tuesday, is expected to continue bringing heavy rain to parts of the state through Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
