RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — After seeing some great views on Friday night and a decent aurora borealis sighting on Saturday night, there's still a chance to see the aurora borealis in central North Carolina on Sunday night.
In further celebration on Mother's Day night, the Northern Lights are expected to once again light up the sky.
However, the best way to see the Northern Lights in person is to take still photos using a long exposure camera.
Most of the scenery will remain invisible to the naked eye tonight. The best time to see the Northern Lights is from 11pm on Sunday to 2am on Monday, away from the city lights.
NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center said the light became visible thanks to a magnetic storm that reached G5 strength.
It's been a busy weekend for sky watchers, as a rare and powerful geomagnetic storm impacts Earth, sparking dazzling aurora borealis.
NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center says more “very fast-moving coronal mass ejections will collide with Earth's magnetic field” into Sunday night, giving Americans the chance to see the northern lights for the third night in a row. .
On Saturday, the northern lights were strong enough to reach Florida.
