Michael R. Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City and a major Democratic donor, has donated about $20 million to support President Biden's reelection campaign, a Bloomberg representative said.
Bloomberg has donated $19 million to Future Forward, the Democratic Party's main super PAC backing Biden, and $929,600 to the Biden Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee for Biden and the Democratic National Committee, said Howard Wolfson, education program director at Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Bloomberg's donation was first reported by The Washington Post.
“I endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 and am proud to do so again,” Bloomberg said in a statement.
Mr. Bloomberg poured $1 billion of his own money into his losing campaign in the 2020 presidential election, but ultimately endorsed Mr. Biden in that year's Democratic primary and became a key campaign donor. He spent tens of millions of dollars on television ads supporting Mr. Biden through his own political action committee and vowed to spend heavily in Florida, a state that then-President Donald J. Trump ultimately won by about 3 percentage points.
Bloomberg's $19 million donation to Future Forward is significant, but it pales in comparison to the super PAC's election spending appetite, which is running a $250 million ad campaign in seven battleground states from August through Election Day.
