Responding to a question about former President Donald J. Trump's repeated vows to prosecute political opponents if elected, he again made the same suggestion that President Biden could be indicted and convicted of crimes after he leaves office.
Biden then grilled Trump about his felony conviction in New York, other ongoing criminal cases and a civil lawsuit that has led to him being hit with stiff fines.
“Joe, based on everything he's done, he can be convicted,” Trump said, referring to border and Ukraine policy, before adding: “This guy is a criminal. This guy — you're lucky. I did nothing wrong. It would have been a rigged, nasty system. I did nothing wrong.”
Biden was visibly infuriated by Trump's allegations, blasting the former president's vows of revenge and highlighting Trump's many legal troubles.
“Look at the crimes you're still being charged with, and the civil penalties you owe,” Biden said. “Billions of dollars in civil penalties for groping a woman in public, for having sex with a porn star the night your wife was pregnant, for a whole range of things? What are you talking about? You have the moral code of a stray cat.”
Trump also defended the actions of himself and his supporters during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, saying the Biden administration “destroyed the lives of so many people” who were convicted in connection with the attack. He also suggested members of the House committee that investigated the incident “should go to jail.”
He also mentioned Biden's son, Hunter, who was recently convicted of a felony.
“When he talks about convicted felons, his son was a very high level felon,” Trump said.
