They came out in advocating for national parks, small businesses, public education and health care for veterans, abortion rights and fair elections. They were opposed to tariffs and oligarchs, dark money and fascism, deportation of legal immigrants, and government efficiency.
Protesters gathered in towns and cities across the country on Saturday to protest against President Donald J. Trump's policies, so there was no shortage of causes. The rally was planned in all 50 states, with several early images posted on social media showing crowds in places like St. Augustine, Florida and Buffalo, with marchers in Rainey Frankfort, Kentucky showing crowds.
The massive action of “Hands Off!” was planned when many on the left lamented what they thought was a strong lack of resistance to President Trump. The president acted aggressively to punish those and institutions he deemed a step away from his ideology.
The rally was organized by an indivisible Moveon, and several other groups, who led protests on abortion rights, gun violence and racial justice during the first Trump administration. Organizers said they hope that President Trump will shift his focus to issues like health care and social security, with the message that while benefiting his richest friends, he makes life even more difficult for the average American.
They also focused on large demonstrations like the 2017 Women's March in Washington, and instead moved away from planning dozens of local gatherings in large and small communities.
Judging by the waving placards, some demonstrators had certain issues, while others opposed the Trump administration and the Maga movement in general. One indication was declared: “Let go of my money, my rights, my democracy.” “Make it wrong again,” another person said.
