Starting next year, if you board an American Airlines flight, you won't have to pay to watch the show or movie.
American Airlines will offer free high-speed Wi-Fi for regular outfits on most flights, the company announced Tuesday. In doing so, the airline will be the last of the major domestic airlines offering free internet connections.
The airline said that from January 2026, members of the free AADVantage Loyalty program will have access to wireless services. In a statement, the company said it would offer perks for “more airplanes than any other domestic airline.”
Heather Garboden, chief customer officer at American Airlines, said in a statement:
The airline says it will partner with AT&T to provide the service for free. The connection will be driven by satellite service providers Viasat and Intelsat, he added.
To connect, passengers must register with the AADVantage Loyalty program. This accumulates loyalty points for travel with your career. Wi-Fi services available on most of the US routes now start at $9.
The airline said it's pace to equip more than 500 regional aircraft with high-speed wireless by the end of this year.
Other carriers already offer free Wi-Fi.
In 2023, Delta Air Lines introduced free Wi-Fi on most domestic flights through the airline's Skymiles program.
Last month, United Airlines announced that it will feature free internet by Starlink, a satellite internet service founded by Elon Musk, and that part of its fleet will be deployed on all planes by the end of this year.
