Tonight, Lexington's first responders are mourning their own loss and honoring the life of Captain Ronnie Metcalfe. Reporter Joshua Davis takes us to Davidson County to talk about how the community is keeping his name and legacy alive. Firefighters at Fire Station No. 3 here in Lexington are remembering Captain Ronnie Metcalfe, describing him as a man who always encouraged others outside of the station. There is a monument to the captain who spent nearly 20 years there. His jacket, helmet and flowers were under an American flag as he flew at half-mast Tuesday morning. According to the Lexington Fire Department, a house fire broke out on West 5th Street and Lexington crews decided to work inside the building to most effectively extinguish the fire. . As the situation worsened, the crew was instructed to evacuate their homes. However, Metcalf went missing and searchers found him inside with severe burns. He was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on Friday. The ministry announced that he died from these injuries. His companions said the captain had no bone problems and was a mentor, father figure and friend to many of his comrades. Lexington Police say two people have been arrested in connection with the fire that killed Captain Metcalf. 31-year-old Brandon Hoskins and 37-year-old Stacey Steagall are currently in custody and charged with misdemeanor trespassing in a home set on fire. At this time, the cause of the fire is still unknown. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office announced that the man who fired shots at a car during a road rage incident is now in custody. Charles Roberts Jr., 66, is charged with multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to murder, prosecutors said. They say it happened on Thursday 74th when another vehicle struck Roberts' vehicle in North Carolina. That's when he fired a handgun at the victim. A jury found 38-year-old David Ray Lunsford guilty on all charges Thursday, in a statement from Surry and Stokes County District Attorney Tim Watson.
